Acne is a very pervasive skin disorder today. While this skin ailment affects practically everyone, it's more common in young adults and teenagers. This disorder generally appears on the bodies oil-producing areas, particularly in the face, back and chest, although it can also show up in the upper arms and neck.
Although acne is not a life-threatening disorder, it can lead to reduced self-esteem and self-confidence, as well as lead to depression and social withdrawal, especially among teenagers. If acne is left untreated, it may also lead to the formation of scars, which may be disfiguring. A number of natural and organic treatments have been proven to be effective in eradicating acne, and among these include yogurt.
Yogurt Is Good For Your Health, And Skin Too
Yogurt has been a regular staple by humans for centuries. It's a thick-custard or pudding-like food, which is produced through the natural bacterial fermentation of milk. Yogurt production involves the culture of milk or cream with live bacteria, wherein bacteria is added directly to the milk. Commercially-available yogurt brands today are made through culturing of bacterium such as lactobacillus aciodophilus or lactobacillus bulgaricus.
Home-made yogurt on the other hand, is made by mixing commercially-available yogurt to boiled milk, and keeping the mix at temperatures of 112 degree Fahrenheit, or 45 degrees Celsius. Yogurts acidic nature makes it hard for harmful bacteria to thrive, making it great for use as a skin-care material. Yogurt also contains essential nutrients and minerals, which are helpful for rejuvenating hair and skin. Many people are now using yogurt to treat a wide array of skin ailments including acne.
Why Yogurt Is Good For Treating Acne
A number of health experts denote that acne may also be a sign of a weak immune system, because once the immune system is weak, the skins hair follicles and sebaceous glands often easily get stimulated. The over-stimulation of these areas often results to the formation of acne. Yogurt can be digested orally or applied directly to affected skin, to rejuvenate skin tone and eradicate skin disorders.
For acne treatments, yogurt is often mixed with other ingredients such as honey, cosmetic clay or dried comfrey leaf. The yogurt mixture is then applied to the face and other affected part, just like applying a face mask. The mixture is left on the face for 15 minutes, and is washed afterwards with a warm washcloth. After washing, apply a sunscreen moisturizer to protect the face from photosensitivity. Use the yogurt acne face mask at least two to three times a week.
Treating acne today can be both inexpensive and effective. Yogurt is an affordable food item which can be used to eradicate this unsatisfied skin disorder. However, unless you¡¯re allergic to yogurt, or if you¡¯re lactose-intolerant, then you need to first consult with your physician before you use yogurt as a material for acne treatment.
