Acne basically is the product of our crazy hormones. Once our hormones got a bit imbalanced, it has effects on every system especially our skin. Our skin will usually increase its production especially the sebum or oil. An increase of oil on your skin is also an invitation of acne. Not only has that, certain bacteria settled on your face which makes the scene worse. The bacteria present on skin triggers the inflammatory process of our system. It will counteract the bacteria's harmful effects. As a result, you have your very big and severe acne. So how do you treat acne? You can use antibiotic to treat acne.
Function of Antibiotic to Acne Treatment
Basically, antibiotic has several mechanisms. One of the most vital mechanisms of bacteria is its bacteriostatic effect. It usually kills bacteria around your follicle. Reducing the number of bacteria around your follicle or your acne, it also reduces our body's fighting mechanism. It signals the white blood cells as well as the inflammatory mechanism to slow down due to a reduction of bacteria or foreign microorganism. Such effects will lead to the healing of your acne.
Such antibiotics have several types and different classifications. And only limited antibiotics are used in treating acne. And they are as follows:
An antibiotic that is famously used in treating acne is tetracycline. The physician usually prescribe 500mg of tetracycline twice a day continuously for 1-2 weeks. Later on the dose is lowered to 250mg two times a day and then discontinued. It is taken with an empty stomach. The tetracycline is not applicable to all individual. It has certain limits. It is highly contraindicated to pregnant patients and children.
Another common antibiotic used for treating acne is erythromycin. It has certain strengths compared to tetracycline. It kills bacteria present on the acne. Erythromycin can usually lessen the redness of the pimples due to its anti-inflammatory effect. This antibiotic is taken with a full stomach. This is contraindicated to pregnant mothers. The usual dose of the drug is 250 to 500 mg two times a day.
There is something in common between tetracycline and minocycline. Minocycline is a derivative of tetracycline. It is usually prescribed to acne that is already pustular. The usual doe of minocycline is 50 to 100 mg two times a day.
If a person is allergic to tetracycline and erythromycin, another antibiotic given is doxycycline. The dose usually is 50 to 100 mg given twice a day. It is highly recommended to be taken with a full stomach to prevent gastric upset.
One different thing about clindamycin is it is usually prescribed as topical antibiotic. It has oral forms but the topical form is the usual prescription. The product is administrated through skin by applying the ointment directly on the acne.
Antibiotics may be good news for you but it is chemically made. Certain chemicals do have side effects on your body.
ANTIBIOTIC SIDE EFFECTS
The usual side effect of antibiotic is vaginal yeast infection for women. Other side effects are skin sensitivity to sun, nausea, dizziness, and etc. Tetracycline has the most side effects than other antibiotics for acne.
